I tend to have that dragged-through-a-hedge-backwards look at the best of times. I have actually fallen asleep in that particular hideyhole before now.
Anyway, I think Avon was not entirely whole-hearted about finding him.
He does look reluctant immediately he finds out Vila happens to be the right weight. I suppose if he'd been really keen he'd have thought about it himself. Avon said he considered his sense of self interest one of his best features (or words to that effect) and I think he'd be annoyed with himself for feeling guilty about ditching Vila.
