I thought the problem was that it would have been a much better story without the Doctor and his companions in it.
Incidentally, I can't think of anything which I would regard as gospel in these parts, apart, perhaps, from "Blake's 7 is quite a good programme"; all of the instances you cite have been hotly debated at one time or another.
