I would like to state herein my personal conviction that the very best confection ever produced in modern America has never equalled the very worst confection ever produced in the U.K.
For one thing, when sugar became too expensive for food manufacturers, most of them substituted high fructose corn syrup in almost everything, which had the dual honor of making all our food taste like crap and making an enormous amount of unsuspecting Americans allergic to corn products.
It's so pathetic that when Annie and I discovered they were selling Picadelli biscuits on a back shelf of the local Circle K convenience stores, we bought up almost every package to hoard in the cupboard. Just...sad.
