I've been tracking the progress of recordable DVDs in the hopes of doing that very thing. I've also pondered the possibility of having my tapes transfered by professionals, but I wasn't sure they'd dub copyrighted material.

I hope as well. Per what I've heard about doing music vids on computers, there are both advantages and disadvantages to computers vs. the old-fashioned way.
If you were making your own songvid, what music and clips wouldyou include?
I have so many songs in mind for future vids that it would take me all morning to touch on them.
Some past ones include:
Sadder But Wiser Girl for Me from "The Music Man" - clips of Avon lusting after "wiser" girls--blonde in GOLD, Servalan, Soolin, Anna Too Long a Soldier - clips of Tarrant, Blake, and Blake with Tarrant paralleling that they've both been "too long a soldier" The Rose - clips from the suggestive Avon and Cally scenes, ending with a freeze of Avon clutching her arm and with them looking at each other from SARCOPHAGUS Camp Granada - clips such as the box monster in DAWN OF THE GODS for "the lake has alligators" and Gan and company tramping over Cygnus Alpha for "send out a searching party"
My first impulse has been to do Tommy Shaw's "Girls With Guns" (has someone already done that?
Not that I know, but I'm notoriously musically challenged. I'm not familiar with a lot of popular music and I can't always identify songs by titles. I need to hear the lyrics.

(also seems a no-brainer). I'd tend to put shots of Avon or Tarrant grinning over the line, "Hot tramp! I love you so." :) I'm also tempted by Living Colour's "Glamour Boys" for a montage of Tarrant.
I don't think either of those have been done, either. But again, I'm not familiar with the songs. And anything with Tarrant would be, as you note, scenic. <g>
These are the first music videos I've ever seen, and I did love them, esp. "Brothers in Arms." Does anyone know where I can get my hands on more,
I only accessed those myself the other day. I've not kept up with vids on the Net, and I don't know what else is out there. There are oodles of vids done the old-fashioned way (with vcrs). But there is format incompatibility to take into consideration. The only PAL offering that I know of is from Horizon; Mary Van Deusen provided them with a copy of her vids in PAL with permission to distribute them. If you have NTSC capability, contact me off line and I'll tell you what is available.

There is a vidder's list that might be helpful. I don't belong to it, but I can get you info if you are interested. Also, I'm pretty sure there are FAQs on computer vids out there. I'll ask a friend for information for you.
