I've always thought there was a nice fic waiting in that idea. After all, there are such a lot of deserving people in the universe who would make cave-fodder: Servalan, the Federation higher echelons, the people who manufacture and use the Pylene-50 etc. The Crew kill Federation minions with great enthusiasm anyway - would it really be so very different to send them downstairs instead? It could be an easy slippery slope to start down.
