Yes, I certainly agree with this. Those gaps and possibilities are the very things that spark off compelling ideas and make you want to write fanfic to fill them in. How many writers have had an urge to write a missing scene or to continue an episode after one has just ended (like "Blake", for instance <g>).

I've noticed that there *are* shows that I like a lot, which I don't have any compelling desire to write anything for at all... there aren't any "gaps" calling me. For example, I like a lot: Space: Above and Beyond, Callan, Star Wars and Star Cops, and even read fanfic for them, but haven't felt any urges to write fanfic for them myself. The ideas simply aren't there for me, and perhaps I subconsiously consider them to be "complete".
