How do I go about getting on to the Freedom City and Spin lists? (As if I wasn't getting enough mail at the moment as things are!)

That link was sent to you either when the list changed over to the new listbot, of when you joined the list. The welcome message to the list specifically asked you to read the FAQ. Shame on you for not doing so.
