Oh, yes - wrenching as that ending is (I still can't watch the final Blake-Avon scenes without shivering), it was, in its own horrible way, horribly perfect. Despite my deep love of PGPs, I truly believe *any* on-screen 5th series would have been the ultimate anti-climax.
It's hard to recall how I felt about the series *before* 'Blake' - oh, I loved it, I remember that, but those incredible last few minutes cast such a shadow for me over everything that's gone before.

Agreed. Glad I'm not the only only who manages to love and ahte the ending at the same time
