Maybe this is another of B7's attractions - everyone can watch it so comfortably through their own brand of coloured glasses.

I have thought this for a long time. B7 is very malleable. It can be written as anything from science fantasy to cyberpunk with at least some canonical support, which possibly makes it more open to individuation than any other series I can think of.
However, having chosen an approach, you then need to put in some work to invest a story with your tone of preference, which might be why B7 fic is of a generally high standard compared to other fandoms (allegedly - I'm only picking up on what others have said, not having read any non-B7 fic myself).
