Well, it's not proper fanfic, but a couple of people were misguided enough to enquire how my Scottish friend might fare in a few more episodes... "Sarcophagus" by Harriet Monkhouse [Scene: The Liberator flightdeck, lit by lightning flashes. The Alien is hissing at Avon, while Vila, Dayna and Tarrant crouch on the floor.] AVON: You look so beautiful when you're angry. [Avon kisses the Alien, and tries to take her ring.] ALIEN: You think a girl's going to fall for that old line? [She promptly knees him, and he falls writhing to the ground. Tarrant and co wonder whether to help him, but think better of it. Enter Man with Duffle Bag. Brief vision of Symbolic Masked Man with Duffle Bag, holding up duffle bag in mysterious ritualistic manner.] JARRIERE: Now, miss, no need to get nasty! ALIEN [looking him up and down]: Who are you? Was your presence here predicted? You seem familiar, but you hardly fit the bill of "intelligent menial"... JARRIERE: Well, miss, we'll let others be the judge of that. Now, if you could just come here... [He has been fiddling with the bag, and finally opens it up, to reveal a giant blue egg.] VILA [hopefully]: Oh, is that chocolate? ALIEN: No! VILA: Marzipan, then? [Dayna jabs him somewhere painful until he shuts up.] ALIEN: No!! [Jarriere pulls out of his bag something resembling the tube from a vacuum cleaner, attaches one end to the egg, and waves the other end at the Alien.] ALIEN: NO!!! [Her form begins to distort as she is sucked down the tube into the egg. All that is left is a faint murmur of "Eldrad *must* live!" Jarriere pulls out the tube, reveals that he is holding the Alien's ring, and somehow uses it to seal the hole in the bottom of the egg. Cally staggers on to the flightdeck and gazes at him, tearful but grateful.] JARRIERE: I'm sorry you had all that trouble, miss, but really, you should check the "Display until" notices on alien artefacts more carefully. [He finishes putting the egg back into his duffle bag and slings it over one shoulder. Exit] -- Jarriet Jarriere: [Shakes his head] - Gambit

Jarvik's 7?

I was reading the grauniad online today, and in a piece on cyborgs (http://www.guardian.co.uk/netnotes/article/0,6729,474637,00.html) they talked about something that set off all my Blakes 7 alarms. In about 1978, the first articifical hearts were used. Their name: "JARVIK-7"! Does this mean that Jarvik's "heartiness" was artificial? Was he supposed to be the leader of a group of seven outlaws? I think we need to be told ;-) - Iain

Traitor script on Ebay going in 20 hours

There's an item not listed on Blake's 7 or Blakes 7 on the US Ebay but is listed in B7 (I think it's Blakes 7 without the apostrophe) in the UK Ebay. That's one reason people should check both Ebays and both spellings because the listings are not the same. In the US, it is listed somewhere in TV memorabilia section --a place I never look. The item number is 1423576780. And it goes in about 20 hours from this post if you get it as an individual Email at the time I'm sending it. It is Wednesday just after 11 AM PST in California now. It is the original camera script of Traitor which the seller claims to have gotten from Chris Boucher himself. The beginning bid is 20 pounds and there are no bids. I frankly don't know if it's worth 20 pounds or not since I'm not into collecting scripts. There are pencil notations on the script. Script collectors might take a quick look at this if you get this Email notice in time. I'm reading Auden's Lectures on Shakespeare, which reminds me that Avon often literally sounds like a bastard--i.e., someone like Edmund in King Lear or Faulconbridge in King John--someone who has been dispossessed from society for reasons completely beyond his control. Does anyone know of any stories based on the premise that the rather, ah, fraught relationship between Blake and Avon stems from Blake's repudiation of his family's status and wealth--that Avon would have been perfectly happy to accept if it weren't for their father's being married to Blake's mother rather than to Avon's? -(Y)

guess the character

Using (it appears) a simple binary 'expert system' but with an impressively complete database. www.smalltime.com/dictator.html this will guess a TV character from a series of yes/no answers (it says sitcom character but it has obviously been taught plenty of others). It took an impressively few number of questions to correctly guess (you can see I was setting it harder challenges as I went) - Basil Fawlty - Rimmer - Baldrick - Mrs Slocombe - Daisy from Spaced - Brian from Spaced (impressive result - minor character of obscure prog, only released in UK) When trying to guess 'Vila' it suggested Dr Smith from Lost in Space and Blake, both of which I thought were pretty good guesses. People may wish to teach it other B7 characters if they want. Alison

Possible Croucher sighting

I don't suppose anyone else was watching BBC2 at 1.25 a.m. today (Friday), but I happened to catch one of those brief 1970s features (selection of 70s music plus clips of film, TV etc) which included an anti-smoking ad. I actually remembered the ad, so it must have been shown quite a bit at the time: two young men are sitting in a pub, intercut with a glamorous young woman puffing on a cigarette. One young man keeps enumerating her attractions, eg her luscious lips, the other keeps countering with her smoking-related disadvantages, eg her breath always smells. Halfway through, I suddenly thought "That sounds like Brian Croucher!" So I peered hard at him in the few seconds remaining, and decided that it could just about be Brian, pretty young and with more hair than we're used to. -- Jarriet Travis: "That your new muscle, Servalan? Hi all Just to let you all know (if you are actually interested) Ive finally started a web page dedicated to my favourite fandom <G> The URL is www.darksites.com/souls/horror/blakes7/index.html (I hope the link works, im new at this <G>) Its still under construction (I only started it today with help from my friend Starkiller) and I hope to add more very soon. I need to know if there is anything there that belongs to someone that I need to credit for it (or remove it on their request), Ive lost track of where I downloaded some of the images from, so if it belongs to you, please say so.
