Vagina Monologues

I went to see this in London this evening and it was sooo funny. There were tears rolling down my face during parts of it. Josette Simon was excellent and performed a few well acted orgasms on stage (at least I presume she was acting). What was really astonishing about her is that she looked hardly any older than she did in B7. The play is only on until 22 Sept, so rush if you want to see it with her in it. You are always on the outside of the human race, looking in. I sometimes think great heroism or self sacrifice could be motivated by the fact that the hero doesn't really like people all that much, or want to spend normal time with them. I'm only guessing, because I've never met that kind of big-action hero in real life. I'm not sure what I've described is a very accurate picture of the Blake we see on screen, because he seems too normal and friendly most of the time. But you could imagine that deep inside, there is some sort of fellow-feeling with Travis, a deep rage against everything. And he would rationalise this away, and rationalise away his reluctance to kill his shadow. Alison

Since there are no ridiculous plot contrivances in B7, it couldn't be a ridiculous plot contrivance, therefore Blake must have a good reason for his repeated failures to kill Travis. Perhaps the question is like that of Hamlet's delay in executing his revenge. A popular current theory is that Hamlet is unwilling to kill Claudius because Claudius has merely succeeded in achieving what Hamlet failed (to kill his father and marry his mother). If anything I'd think it would send him into a jealous rage, but... So the question is, is Blake suffering such despair that he can't entirely blame Travis for trying to kill him (and keeps refusing to kill Travis to give Travis another shot at him?) -(Y)

Childhood's End

Well, I just finished listening to my tapes of the BBC radio play of Arthur C. Clarke's "Childhood's End", starring Steven Pacey. And "starring" was right, his is the voice which holds the narrative together. I don't know how true it was to the book, having never read it. But it was a vivid (if one can use that term for a radio play) production. Yes, Steven Pacey did a good job, along with everyone else.
