However on Orac being sentient, I can imagine a quip from Avon to Vila.
Avon: I'm not sure you're sentient, you have to be conscious. That would
only count you as pasr-time sentient.
Vila: (to Avon) at least I'm warm-blooded.
Avon: More 100% proof.

Or, as I had Orac say in one of my stories when asked for an explanation 'The simplest explanation would take four hours - if you don't interrupt.'

I experienced the same phenomenon myself. I think you had to open the
attachment itself to be fully affected. I checked with some of my email
contacts to see if they'd receivd anything resembling this message, but they
hadn't, so I assume I got lucky, too. But my system isn't old, it's fairly
up to date. I just wish these virus-writing idiots would get theier smug
heads out of their arses and find something more worthwhile to occupy their
time.

One argument for Orac being sentient - it appears to have a sense of humour - the 'I am not a rodent in a box' line and 'Ultraworld'.
If asked whether it considered itself sentient, what would Orac's reply be?

But it would understand the question
