I don't suppose anyone else was watching BBC2 at 1.25 a.m. today
(Friday), but I happened to catch one of those brief 1970s features
(selection of 70s music plus clips of film, TV etc) which included an
anti-smoking ad. I actually remembered the ad, so it must have been
shown quite a bit at the time: two young men are sitting in a pub,
intercut with a glamorous young woman puffing on a cigarette. One young
man keeps enumerating her attractions, eg her luscious lips, the other
keeps countering with her smoking-related disadvantages, eg her breath
always smells. Halfway through, I suddenly thought "That sounds like
Brian Croucher!" So I peered hard at him in the few seconds remaining,
and decided that it could just about be Brian, pretty young and with
more hair than we're used to.
