Now, Gods, Stand up for Bastards

I'm reading Auden's Lectures on Shakespeare, which reminds me that Avon often literally sounds like a bastard--i.e., someone like Edmund in King Lear or Faulconbridge in King John--someone who has been dispossessed from society for reasons completely beyond his control. Does anyone know of any stories based on the premise that the rather, ah, fraught relationship between Blake and Avon stems from Blake's repudiation of his family's status and wealth--that Avon would have been perfectly happy to accept if it weren't for their father's being married to Blake's mother rather than to Avon's? -(Y)

guess the character

Using (it appears) a simple binary 'expert system' but with an impressively complete database. www.smalltime.com/dictator.html this will guess a TV character from a series of yes/no answers (it says sitcom character but it has obviously been taught plenty of others). It took an impressively few number of questions to correctly guess (you can see I was setting it harder challenges as I went) - Basil Fawlty - Rimmer - Baldrick - Mrs Slocombe - Daisy from Spaced - Brian from Spaced (impressive result - minor character of obscure prog, only released in UK) When trying to guess 'Vila' it suggested Dr Smith from Lost in Space and Blake, both of which I thought were pretty good guesses. People may wish to teach it other B7 characters if they want. Alison

Possible Croucher sighting

I don't suppose anyone else was watching BBC2 at 1.25 a.m. today (Friday), but I happened to catch one of those brief 1970s features (selection of 70s music plus clips of film, TV etc) which included an anti-smoking ad. I actually remembered the ad, so it must have been shown quite a bit at the time: two young men are sitting in a pub, intercut with a glamorous young woman puffing on a cigarette. One young man keeps enumerating her attractions, eg her luscious lips, the other keeps countering with her smoking-related disadvantages, eg her breath always smells. Halfway through, I suddenly thought "That sounds like Brian Croucher!" So I peered hard at him in the few seconds remaining, and decided that it could just about be Brian, pretty young and with more hair than we're used to. -- Jarriet Travis: "That your new muscle, Servalan? Hi all Just to let you all know (if you are actually interested) Ive finally started a web page dedicated to my favourite fandom <G> The URL is www.darksites.com/souls/horror/blakes7/index.html (I hope the link works, im new at this <G>) Its still under construction (I only started it today with help from my friend Starkiller) and I hope to add more very soon. I need to know if there is anything there that belongs to someone that I need to credit for it (or remove it on their request), Ive lost track of where I downloaded some of the images from, so if it belongs to you, please say so.
