GT shows on video--How Green Was My Valley

I hope some of you have ordered your GT video of HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY from http://www.choices.direct.co.uk It is 6 hours PAL and described as the Stanley Baker/Sian Phillips twinpack. Be careful that you don't confuse it with the American movie. When I checked minutes ago, I saw it still was at the sale price of 13.59 pounds. . Shipping, even worldwide, is free. Once the pre-order price is dropped, it will cost 16.99 pounds, which is still good for a six hour show. To find out more about this 1975-6 BBC show check out GT's credits at Judith Proctor's website. Sian Phillips once said that this production of HGWMV was far superior to the popular American movie. Gareth plays the reverend and should have a fairly decent role in the production, but I can't really say for sure since I haven't read the book nor have I seen the American movie. This is a brand new video release (this June) so there are no specific details at the site. The description says zero minutes and I am assuming it says that because the video hasn't actually been produced as yet. But since the original show was approximately six hours and this is a twinpack, I see no reason why it wouldn't be the complete original show. The site is fairly easy to use for me, but I do know some people have had trouble with it. It took me less than five minutes to register as a customer, find the video, and order it with a credit card. The only real problem I can see is that most Americans and Canadians need NTSC, and this format is not available at this time. Joyce

GT shows on video-- The Bell

For people interested in seeing THE BELL ( a 1982 4 part BBC show of Iris Murdock's book starring Ian Holm and Gareth Thomas, among others) , I would like to make the suggestion that you contact the BBC and request this to be released on video in the future. There are various addesses you can use to contact the BBC but one you might use is this one. laura.palmer(a)bbc.co.uk Laura Palmer tracks requests for videos and has informed me I am the first person to ever request putting THE BELL out on video. She has been keeping track of requests since 1996. (So actually if you have some other favorite shows you'd like out on video, remember this address.) If you need more information about the show, check out GT's credits at Judith Proctor's website. Basically THE BELL was 4 hours long and both Ian Holm and Gareth Thomas have major parts. Homosexuality is part of the drama as well as the question of faith. I am assuming it follows the plot of the book, and the book is indeed wonderful reading. I do hope that some of you are motivated to request THE BELL being put out on video. Perhaps if more people mention it, it will actually happen. And if you don't like Gareth Thomas, but just want to read a good book, I would highly recommend reading THE BELL. Joyce

Some suggested angles of attack - Make a map of areas free from Federation control, areas under partial control, and areas under complete control. Make another map identifying areas by their attitude towards the Federation (hostile, friendly, neutral, etc), another representing whether the Federation feels secure in an area and is able to expand out of it or whether they're weak in that area and concentrating on maintaining control. Also, identify what forms that control takes and how much is required (large military presence vs single bomb, drugs vs personnel, etc). Start superimposing maps and suggesting strategies based on the results (example: this area is largely free of Federation control and it might be easy to expand the Federation free zone, or this area probably can't be freed but it already ties down a large number of Federation troops and it wouldn't take much to tie down a lot more which could stop all expansion in this area). Blake's needed to think like a matador (not that I'm into bull fighting, but the example seems to fit). Sometimes, when faced by a large, charging bull, you have to concentrate on seriously weakening it and staying alive before you can get around to the nitty gritty of finishing it off.
