There's nothing wrong, for example, with liking watching or playing football, but someone who follows say Manchester United round the country, can name their teams and record over the past 20 years, and feels that physical aggression is a warranted response towards the followers of other teams is unlikely to win my approval. ...are generally entertaining, and I thought I'd better say so right now :-) And it's not *just* because she's about to buy my 'zine, and frequently agrees with me on many issues, because I like Neil's postings as well, and he frequently doesn't, he just writes well. (Yes, I know I have a cheek, after berating a dear friend not to bite troll-bait) Cheers, Pred'x (...who was going to write 'Wendy, you have delighted us long enough', but who is instead going to point out that she is quite sanguine about the fact that Neil is not going to buy her 'zine and she is going to buy his--it's a matter of subcultures...)

It seems to me, though, that a major part of the problem here is that it would never have occured to me that someone would have regarded a post about "Suffering Beautifully" as *being* an adult topic. Annoyingly character junkie-istic, yes. Morally offensive, no. To Whom It May Concern

Sally is my friend, though we have never met. We have some similar views (we tend to like the same men) and some wildly differing ones (we definitely don't like the same women). She has a rather different mode of expression to mine, but at least it means I can tell who's writing the post, even when she doesn't sign it. Upsetting my friends is a very quick route to alienating me. I happened not to share Kathryn's belief that Wendy was a troll until the post about Sally's mode of expression, which I thought was gratuitously unpleasant. I am glad that Wendy has stated that this was not meant as a personal attack, and hope that she will learn to be more cautious in avoiding possible causes of misunderstanding. I also hope she will understand in the meantime if I regard her posts with a certain degree of wariness. Prissy mode off. You may return to your normal programming. Harriet
